Teen Discovery in Costa Rica is a short term (typically 8 weeks) wake-up and refocus program for teens who need an alternative for the summer or a simple reality check and wake-up call that the path they are pursuing is not acceptable. Teen Discovery is just the direction your child might need. This program is typically a summer vacation option but also can be used year round at anytime. This process works well for the adolescent who is struggling in his home school or the community, as well as the child who might not have yet taken the plunge off the edge but with failing grades in school and a need to get caught up with the rest of their class, to basic disrespect to parents, and evidences of possible drug use; the signs are clearly there of where this student is going and will end up in if a option such as this isn't exercised.


Teen Discovery in Costa Rica is also the home of Pillars of Hope. The students attend Pillars of Hope School as they attend Teen Discovery and the fact they are in another culture and unfamiliar surrounding immediately starts the process of positive change. Finding themselves in entirely new surroundings, teens tend to be much more teachable and open to new directions. Experience has shown that a foreign experience not only facilitates change and perspective, but also creates the kinds of memories that they are likely to appreciate the rest of their lives.. They Interact daily with the honest and humble Costa Ricans who as a people who have very little materially but are incredibly happy and this begins to help them get a new found appreciation for home and family while it alters and changes their perspective. This change in thinking and perspective changes both attitudes and lives.

Bilingual teachers help students learn Spanish, which further enhances the process of change while adding an important educational language component helpful in their future. This is basic Spanish Language Immersion program that is very effective and typically the students are able to speak conversational Spanish by the time the 8 weeks are up.
